Ruth Assawa

Ruth Asawa was a painter, installation and fiber artist, and sculptor.

Ruth Asawa was the daughter of two Japanese immigrants in California. In her lifetime she lived through the great depression and Japanese internment camps, these events shaped her life and her art. She was an advocate for social change and civil rights, she also started a public arts high school in San Fransisco.
